University Committee on Academic Leaves

Under the terms of Article 34 of the Collective Agreement between Brock University and the Brock University Faculty Association (July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2011), there is annually established a University Committee on Academic Leaves. The members of the Committee are selected jointly by the President of the University and the President of BUFA and serve overlapping three-year terms.

The Committee is empowered to receive and consider all applications from individuals wishing to take either a sabbatical leave or a professional leave during all or part of the next year (i.e., July 1st to June 30th). The Committee then submits recommendations to the Provost and Vice-President, Academic concerning the disposition of each application.

The composition of the 2009-10 Committee is as follows:

The Secretary to the Committee is Mr. Patrick Beard, Coordinator of Academic Reviews and Planning.

The deadline for submission of applications to the Committee is

Monday, November 9, 2009.

All applications must be submitted, in the first instance, to the appropriate Department or Library Council and then to the Dean or University Librarian, as appropriate, prior to submission to the Committee Secretary.

    Any standard format will suffice.

Since the normal channel of communication is

  1. from the applicant;
  2. to the Department/Library Council;
  3. to the Dean/University Librarian;
  4. to the Committee; and
  5. to the Vice-President (Academic) and Provost,

the University Committee will correspond only with the Deans/University Librarian and the Vice-President.(Academic) and Provost.
