Faculty of Social Sciences Academic Plan

 Message from the Dean

Welcome to the Faculty of Social Sciences at Brock. We are home to a vibrant group of scholars engaged in cutting-edge research in traditional social science disciplines such as economics, geography, political science, psychology, and sociology, as well as interdisciplinary fields like child and youth studies, communications, disability studies, film studies, labour studies, popular culture, social justice and equity, tourism and the environment, and women's studies. Despite our growing reputation for research, we remain true to Brock's historic commitment to excellence in teaching and close contact between students and faculty members. Our introductory courses combine small group seminar instruction with larger lectures, and our senior level courses are almost all small seminars that allow for significant interaction with instructors and other students.

An education in the social sciences provides a solid foundation for success in life. In addition to learning how to think critically and argue persuasively, you will gain important job-related skills in methods of research, and data analysis and interpretation. Understanding how cultural, economic, political, psychological, and social phenomena influence human behaviour is essential for solving the world's many problems. The social sciences offer theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to live an informed life and to contribute positively to making our own communities and the entire globe a better place. I invite you to explore our Faculty's many programs.

You can get directly from our page to those of most departments and programs in the Faculty for specific information.
