WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY

The faculty and staff in the psychology department are incredibly friendly. They are almost all on a first name basis with you once you get to know them, and are very eager to help, even when they are not specifically involved in whatever project you are working on. They are just genuinely interested in sharing their expertise with students in order to help them. Steve.

My experience as a psychology student at Brock has been literally a life changing experience! From my first class in introductory psychology I knew that psychology was for me. John Mitterer's passion for the field convinced me to change majors, and I could not have made a better choice. I can say for certain that the high quality of the professors at Brock have made me fall in love with the field. Next year I will begin graduate studies in psychology, and I have the professors at Brock to thank for encouraging my passion. Through talking to psychology majors at other universities I am convinced that we have one of the best psychology programs around. The professors care about you as an individual and really want you to succeed! Chrissy.

I really enjoyed my time at Brock as a Communication Studies major. I felt connected with my department and faculty, especially during my upper years. The small class sizes and the seminar system contributed to the 'small school' atmosphere and everyone knowing each other. Everyone at Brock is here to help you achieve your best in all aspects of your life. Amy

As a recent Brock graduate from the Policing and Criminal Justice Program, and a recently hired police officer with the Niagara Regional Police Service, I would like to convey, to anyone considering a career in the vocation of policing, the confidence I have in the policing program offered by Brock University. The program enabled me to experience not only a traditional academic university experience but encouraged me to apply the theories and material learned through practical applications at Niagara College. Not only do I employ what I learned at Brock daily, on the street, but my entire experience in the program proved to be invaluable to me throughout the hiring and interviewing process. The Faculty of Brock not only presented the material in a professional and challenging manner, but fostered the feeling that students are now part of the greater Brock family. If you want to present yourself as the best possible candidate, one who stands out from all other applicants, consider the Policing and Criminal Justice Program, at Brock University. Dave

The faculty of Social Sciences at Brock University has provided me with a diversified education that rivals any other comparable Canadian University. My experience in the Policing and Criminal Justice program has enabled me to explore both the theoretical and practical elements of the criminal justice system. This unique program developed by the Social Sciences department in conjunction with Niagara College has effectively allowed me to develop advanced learning strategies consistent with a degree, along with the hands on benefits of a diploma. Majoring in Political Science; I have gained significant insight into the dynamics of regional and global politics and greatly enhanced my understanding of the world around me. This, coupled with my diploma gives me an edge in an already competitive market. The Social Sciences department at Brock University provides not just an education, but an avenue to success. Starting in my first year at Brock University, I was majoring in Psychology, but also found I thoroughly enjoyed my introductory Sociology course. Once I decided more specifically the type of counseling I wanted to focus on doing with my degree, I visited Jeanette Ramsay, Social Sciences academic advisor, who was incredibly informative through helping me to determine future course selections. She also suggested I visit Brock University’s Career Services. Career Services were very helpful with their drop-in services, and the staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They were enthusiastic about providing various resources and ideas about how to ensure I was taking the most beneficial program for my desired career. Through these processes, the staff aided greatly in my decision to pursue a Sociology degree and were very willing to explain what my next steps should include. As a first year student who was unsure about the path to my career at first, I am very appreciative towards the outstanding staff at Brock University for helping me make these important program and career decisions.

As a Brock graduate and a recently hired officer with the Hamilton Police Service, I would highly recommend Brock University and the Policing & Criminal Justice Program to anyone considering a career in policing. This unique program enabled me to gain practical experience as well as problem solving and critical thinking skills that are so essential for police officers today. The staff and faculty in the Social Science department are there to see you succeed! The Policing program in particular gives those seeking a career in law enforcement a distinct competitive edge over most other applicants to police services across Ontario. The quality of education, career development opportunities, and positive atmosphere at Brock make it a great place to begin your career! I can directly attribute my success today to the knowledge and experience I have gained in my 4 years at Brock. Ben Rushton Policing & Criminal Justice (Sociology)
